NEPALESE WOMEN AND THEIR ARRANGED MARRIAGES
A Nepalese daughter is by tradition forced, at a very young age, into an arranged marriage. She becomes totally dependant on her husband. Her value as an independent human being is lost the moment she marries. No matter if she is rich, poor, well educated or illiterate, this is the destiny of all Nepalese women.
A daughter has her greatest value the very moment her father brings her to the home of her soon-to-be husband. As she is handed over her value drops and she assumes the lowest status in her new family. Her duties from then on are to care for her parents-in law and to produce children.
In this documentary we meet Nepalese women of different generations, reflecting on the destiny of Nepalese women and arranged marriages.
